Basic Codes of Ordinances for smaller cities and villages

American Legal Publishing currently publishes basic codes for a number of states. We are proud to offer this service in conjunction with many state municipal leagues.

A Basic Code is a complete model code of ordinances designed specifically for smaller cities, towns or villages.  By utilizing the concept of shared cost to provide an economic alternative for codification, it allows smaller municipalities in these states to enjoy the benefits of codification without the expense of a customized code.

Based on State Law

Most sections are based directly on the states statutes or on model ordinances drafted by American Legal Publishing and reviewed by the state municipal league.  The Basic Codes are updated periodically to incorporate state law enactments, deletions, and amendments, keeping your municipality current with changes in state law.

Sample Provisions

Most Basic Codes contain provisions on subjects typically encountered by smaller municipalities and may include:

  • Administration
  • Animal Regulations
  • Business Regulations
  • Fire Prevention
  • General Offenses
  • Nuisances
  • Peddler and Solicitor Regulations
  • Streets and sidewalks
  • Taxation
  • Traffic regulations
  • And more
